LESSON SEVEN – THE PRESENT TENSE
WE USE THE PRESENT TENSE TO DESCRIBE THINGS WE DO EVERYDAY. WE
USUALLY ADD AN ‘S’ TO THE VERB WHEN USING THE SUBJECTS HE, SHE OR IT.

NOTE - SPELLING OF
THE THIRD PERSON SINGULAR
1. We
add -s to most verbs.
- Speak
= Speaks
- Wear
= Wears
- Live
= Lives
2. With
the verbs GO and Do
we add –ES.
- Go =
Goes
- Do =
Does
3. We
ad -ES if the verb ends with –S, –SH OR –CH.

Finish = Finishes
- Watch
= Watches
4. If
the verb ends in -Y we change the -Y to –IES.
- Fly
= Flies

Study = Studies
5. If
the verb ends with a vowel and –Y we do not
change the –Y we just add –s.
